United We Stand Divided We Fall

May 7, 2012 in Poetry by aachatz

(This isn’t really a poem but it is a song that I wrote that to help end profiling and hate. I will be composing the music soon.)

Verse 1: What happen to separate is not equal? What happen to being united?

Why aren’t we standing up for our children? Why aren’t we introducing diversity?

Why aren’t we telling them that everybody is different?  Can just we be united and not divided?

Can we just stick up for diversity?  Oh United We Stand with respect and dignity. Divided We Fall with hate and bigotry. United We Stand with unity and equality. Divided We Fall with discrimination. Oh United We Stand Divided We Fall.  United We Stand Divided We Fall.

(8 measure Music Break)

Verse 2: I am not the clothes that I wear. I am not my hair.

Just because my hood is up, it doesn’t make me what I’m not. It doesn’t give you the right to go take your gun and shot me.  Oh No.

The color of my skin does not matter. My orientation does not matter either.

Oh my learning abilities will not affect my future; and my life is worth living.

United We Stand with acceptance and protection from violence.  Divided We Fall with bruises and bullet holes.   United We Stand Divided We Fall. Oh United We Stand Divided We Fall.

Bridge: It doesn’t matter what religion you are. It doesn’t matter what race you are.

Oh you deserve respect and dignity. We need to fight for justice, liberty, and equality.

We need to teach our children diversity.

Chorus: (acapella) United We Stand with respect and dignity; Divided We Fall with hate and bigotry.

United We Stand with justice, liberty, and equality; Divided We Fall with discrimination. United we stand up for with liberty and justice. United We Stand Divided We Fall. (Solo) United We Stand United We Stand. Divided We Fall. Divided We Fall. Oh United We Stand Divided We Fall

One of My Favorite Poems

Hope
By Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune–without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

I absolutely love this poem. It’s simple and sweet. I have it hung on the wall across from my bed and it helps get me out of bed some mornings :)

“Pretty in Pink”

My entry into our Allies Club’s Poetry SLAM! The theme was bullying.

“Pretty in Pink”
By Crystal Wilson – 2012

The white, bright
Oh so white glare on the bathroom tiles blur.
As my glistening eyes turn to geysers
And gush forth pain.

The turmoil inside tears.
The tears sear as they fall.
The Fear
Rears
Its
Head
Tearing my tired soul apart-
My teetering world unfurls,
Just like his clenched fist.

Fist, Face, Fear, Fight, Forfeit
The fist on my face
And the tears on my face
And the blood on my face

Drip, Drop, Dire, Dim
The tears drip from my chin.
My body drops to the floor,
I’ve been here before.
My straights are dire.
My light begins to dim.

Pain, Pretty, Push, Pink
If beauty is pain -
Then I’m pretty, oh so pretty.
I hang on to all that keeps me sane
All I see is pink.
My life’s ink and my emotion’s liquid,
They blur.

Crimson fades to pink.
My love fades to hate.

Beauty is branded by bruises, beatings and bandages.
Boys will be boys,
Bash the brains of those otherwise.
